I actually had a friend back then tell me it was a sure thing and I should get on board... but I hung back.
He bought 50 of them while I took a wait and see approach...
And now that it's up over $4000 a coin!
At least he's classy enough not to say I told you so... though he's definitely got a permanent smile and a few new toys so I know he's got to be thinking it!
So it's hard not to look back wistfully and think 'if only...'
If only I'd bought 50 Bitcoin back then when he did... that would be over $200,000 today...
But heck, if I'd known that back then I would have sold everything I owned and bought a thousand of them!
Well we can't go back in time, so 'what ifs' are a waste of time.
But we can make sure we don't repeat the mistakes of the past.
And the big mistake a lot of people are making right now is thinking they've missed the boat...
The standard headline you'll read on just about every website about Bitcoin you visit is an 'if only' statement...
"If you'd bought $xxxx dollars worth of bitcoin back in xxxx they'd be worth a million dollars by now..."
So it's no surprise that people think the gold rush is over and they've missed out on this opportunity...
So the one thing I want you to take away from here today is this:
This whole Crypto Currency thing is just getting warmed up!
Bitcoin was definitely a great opportunity a few years back, for a savvy investor who spotted the potential and was prepared to take a punt on it.
But if you're thinking that's it... game over... think again...
As big as Bitcoin might be now, it's still not anywhere near mainstream... so it's got years of growth ahead of it...
The technology that enabled Bitcoin to grow so fast is now being adopted by countless new digital currencies... and any one of those has the potential to become the next Bitcoin.
Several are already on a similar trajectory... building on what Bitcoin introduced, but innovating to take it even further and do even more.
And the technology itself is still evolving constantly. It's all open-source so countless programmers are working on it, discovering new applications and taking it in entirely new directions.

The prices are set to grow across the board, so the sooner you buy in, the more you'll get.
The thing is, when you look at Bitcoin at $2700 $3500 $4000+ it's hard to imagine yourself owning a hundred of them any time soon?
Even some of the newer currencies are getting up there... hundreds of dollars each... so it's hard to imagine you're going to rush off and buy 50 of them either.
Sure there are some cheap options, but once you start looking, there's so many of them... how do you know which ones are likely to work as a long-term investment?
Somehow, we just need to cut through all the noise, get some cash together and just make a start already!
The question isn't whether or not we should buy some crypto currencies. The questions we should be asking ourselves are:
